ValleyWide Property Management Opens It’s Doors to Moravian Students

ValleyWide Property Management opened its doors to Moravian College students with internship opportunities. The internship has helped these students get industry exposure and experience, an important element in the successful transition to full time employment.

What hinders many business students in their search for opportunities with companies is the lack of meaningful internships or scheduling conflicts between interns and the companies. This local business has made the search easier by reaching out to local college students in the Lehigh Valley with the field. ValleyWide Property Management LLC offered three Moravian College students practical work experience for their spring semester.

So how did they choose these Moravian College students? Recent Moravian College Alumna, Kim Gialanella, Class of 2007, contacted the college to offer internship opportunities. She understood the value of the alumna connection and bringing in fresh minds and ideas to the company. Ms. Gialanella actually was brought to ValleyWide through an alumna connection and former field hockey team captain.

While college students benefit from the experience, what is in it for the company providing the internship? When a company brings aboard an intern they are investing in their future. These interns are bright and technologically savvy. They can bring new vision to the company to help it excel in its market. ValleyWide identified specific projects that needed to be accomplished and thought that new perspectives are important to the work. Although the interns spend time in administrative support, they all have individual goals through specific projects.

Junior Marketing Communications major, Amanda King is the Corporate Communications Intern. This position includes putting together a Public Relations Calendar for press releases, working with strategic and institutional marketing, and writing various pieces for ValleyWide.

Senior Business Management major, Alexandra Piccone is the Human Resources Intern. This position includes using her management background to update the human resource handbook and provide research on various human resource topics.

Senior Business Management major, Matthew Sheridan is the Maintenance & Construction Department Intern. This position includes working in systems support. He will be managing client data bases to be used in marketing and will help reconcile dispatch and work orders.

ValleyWide will benefit from working with interns on these specific assignments. This demonstrates that having an intern is not only a powerful experience for the intern but is also an asset for the company.
